This spectacular sight along the river will definitely be an event not to be missed.

Opponents will compete in one of the two categories: Traditional or International.

The Traditional race consists of 50 men paddling in each boat weighing 5000 pounds and 96 foot in length. One or two paddle steermen and the lead paddler, who shouts at everyone for encouragement and signals the boat, are also part of the team.

The International race category is where 48-foot boats weighing 2000 pounds are paddled by 20 people within a 650 metre course.

The annual Vertical Marathon is here again. This year, the sounds of footsteps of charity devotees, fitness buffs and members of the public will run up 1,093 steps to the 61st floor for the Vertical Marathon at Banyan Tree Bangkok. The finish point is at the Vertigo Restaurant, which was converted from a helicopter pad and is known as the highest al fresco restaurant in Asia! Proceeds are donated to the HIV Formula Feeding Fund. It is a Thai Red Cross initiative sponsored by Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali and in 2007, Bt515,000 was raised for the charity. The race covers 196 metres and starts at Thai Wah 1 and trophies will be presented by Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali. So come along and watch or take part in the vertical fun!
